What an Ultrasound Can Reveal

Ultrasound uses sound waves to create an image of what’s happening inside your body. This allows your healthcare provider to gather details that a test alone cannot provide.

A simple urine test shows the presence of hCG (the pregnancy hormone), but it does not confirm everything you need to know before making a decision. An ultrasound can answer three important questions:

1. Is the pregnancy viable?

Not every pregnancy continues to develop. In fact, as many as 26% of all pregnancies end in miscarriage. An ultrasound can show whether there is a heartbeat and if the pregnancy is progressing. 2. How far along are you?
