Understand the Side Effects of the Abortion Pill

The abortion pill involves two drugs, mifepristone and misoprostol. Mifepristone is taken first and works by blocking progesterone, a hormone needed for the pregnancy to continue developing.

Misoprostol causes the uterus to contract and expel the pregnancy through significant cramping and bleeding.

Other common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, fever, or chills.

Signs You Need Emergency Care

There are known risks and potential complications after taking the abortion pill. Some of these risks include an incomplete abortion and infection.
